Charging at home on a single-phase power supply gives you charging speeds up to 7.4kW, although fast home chargers are offered in 7kW, 7.2kW and 7.4kW outputs.

Here’s what you can expect charging at home (up to):

  • 3-pin plug (2.3kW) – 5 miles of range per hour
  • 3.6kW charger – 15 miles of range per hour
  • 7kW charger – 25 miles of range per hour
  • 7.2kW charger – 28 miles of range per hour
  • 7.4kW charger – 30 miles of range per hour

What about 11kW chargers?

11kW chargers are over 50% faster than 7kW chargers but require a three-phase power supply. If you have three-phase power, an 11kW charger will give you 38 miles of range per hour.

Overall, 7kW is plenty fast enough for charging at home. Most electric cars under 60kWh charge to 100% in less than 8 hours with a 7kW charger.
